The secret of change is to focus everything on creating what you can in the present, and letting yourself slip out of the past and the future.
How do we truly change?
I am not talking about the sort of change that lasts for just a few months and then we return to the same things we always used to do. No, I am talking about that everlasting change that springs us to move onward with our lives and leave our old techniques behind. This is true change, change that will last forever. The secret is to commit everything you have in your life to building what you can in the present moment.
The past will hold you down and the future will show you the greatest mirage of a land where it all turns out. Both these imaginary places are stupendously deadly because they keep us from being in action in the moment. Even though we can go there in our heads, we have to avoid living in these places at all costs.
Change isn't going to be simple. Consider how many people try and make huge changes the on the first of January. In truth about half of people that make New Years Resolutions fail by February. That disconnect is huge. So there must really be something incredibly damaged with that system.
So what can we do?
Focus upon one thing, every day, to make yourself a smidge better compared to the day before and do that for as long as you possibly can. Do not get obsessed with the quantum leap where everything changes all at once - it's a lie. Focus on the daily chores you can perform and over a period of time you may change more than you could really ever imagine.
Start the voyage of change right now, one step at a time.
Don't wait.
