Get Into Garden Junk Crafts

By Linda Ruiz

Are you looking for a new hobby that does not cost too much to enjoy? Maybe you and your kids want to get crafty but you want something more exciting than the usual bead making kits. If so why not get into garden junk crafts?

A lot of people haven't heard of this kind of crafting, but once you get into it you will love it. To make items for the garden just use anything that you would class as junk. So get the family together and start making decorative or functional pieces that you can use outside.

Before you can being on your first crafting project you will have to get hold of items that you can use. So look out for anything that can be left outside without deteriorating and keep them somewhere safe. Some of the most popular things to use include - cutlery, old kettles, tin baths, plates and so on.

One of the easiest projects to make a start on is to create planters. These will be used all year round and they look really attractive. Or how about using broken pieces of crockery to make your own mosaics?

To make sure that you have everything you need before you start it is a good idea to get some of the basics together. If you are just starting out you should get hold of some strong glue, a few tins of paint, some string and of course your junk. Then as you get into your new hobby you can add other bits to your collection that will help you to be even more creative.

You might have an old headboard made from metal. If so you can make this into a fantastic trellis for any plants you have that climb. So instead of having the usual canes to hold your plants up use something much more interesting.

If you are feeling more adventurous why not make decorative items that you can have in your garden? Take broken crockery and make a mosaic on the floor or on the top of walls. Or just go crazy and make a sculpture that visitors will love.

Large old metal tubs are perfect for using as large planters that can be moved around. Or you can turn them into stunning water features and paint the outside of them to change their appearance. Some people will also use bowling balls that have been sprayed to look like those spherical sculptures that cost a fortune.

As you can see there are so many different things you can do if you want to get crafty. Making items for your garden is a lot of fun and you will get many pleasurable hours from it. You will also be acting in an environmentally friendly way by turning trash into something useful and not just throwing it away.
