The Purpose Of A Prisoner Partition In Police Vehicles

By Leticia Jensen

In every country, there are different sorts of police cars available for various services. Some of these cars are more ideal for responding to incidents, while others are mainly for the transport of police officers. The police use cars from various manufacturers, such as Ford, Toyota and BMW. A police vehicle can also be fitted with features that you would not usually see in a civilian vehicle, such as a prisoner partition.

When you see police vehicles that have been fitted with partitions, you will know that they are used for the transport of criminals, prisoners or suspects of a crime. The partitions are put into place to protect the officers within the vehicle from being attacked. The passengers of the vehicle will not be able to get to the policemen in front in any way.

Police officers will usually search a suspect before they are put into the vehicle, but there is always the chance of them having a hidden knife or other object that could be used as a weapon. Someone who does not want to be taken to the police station may be capable of doing anything to escape from the vehicle. Partitions are therefore necessary to form a barrier between the suspect and police officers.

When the police need to drive with their dogs, cars with partitions are most often used. The partitions will keep the dogs in the rear of the vehicle so that they can travel safely. Police dogs are well-trained animals that are capable of things that humans can't do. Their great sense of smell is one of their best traits for police work, and they are also faster than a human police officer.

Response vehicles are those that will move quickly to an emergency location. They will put on their sirens when they are responding to an incident, and will have flashing lights as well. The public then knows that a police car will be passing and that they need to pull out of way if possible. Response vehicles are capable of high speeds because they have usually been modified. One or two of these vehicles are available for each station.

Police officers need to travel to many locations to fulfill their duties, and therefore need transport. Patrol cars are used for this purpose. Patrols are also done in vehicles these days, however, some countries are starting to put officers on the street more often so that they can interact with the community. Patrol cars are not as speedy as the response vehicles.

Further types of police vehicles include the traffic car, surveillance car, unmarked car, multipurpose car and the anti-riot vehicle. Traffic cars are used to enforce traffic laws, while surveillance vehicles are used to investigate a criminal offense. Multipurpose cars may fulfill the role of patrol, traffic or response vehicles.

Windows that have been secured so they are unbreakable are features of anti-riot vehicles. Tear gas guns could be fitted to them as well. Mini-buses, 4x4s and other larger-type vehicles are ideal as anti-riot vans. This partition can be useful in any or all of the police cars mentioned, and are mainly fitted for safety and security purposes.
