Is The Bbb A Scam That Should Not Be Trusted

By Gwen Lowe

Now if one is not familiar with the Better Business Bureau in the United States of America, it is a website that would give a list of almost all companies in America. Now in this list, each company will have a corresponding grade and a few comments with the grade that was given to them. Now many are asking is the bbb a scam because recently, there has been some controversial news about it not being credible when it comes to their ratings.

Now it is because of these reports that the netizens have already began to doubt if the information the BBB is giving out is actually genuine or not. Sometime during the year 2010, there was a very controversial story regarding the Bureau and the grades they gave out. In a nutshell, the news report stated that the organization actually told the companies that they could buy good grades and good comments.

Now the thing about the Better Business Bureau is that many people think that it is credible simply because they are looking for a site that provides reviews on businesses. Now just how one would know how this system works, the BBB offers companies a membership fee. This membership fee would depend on how big the company is and how well known it is.

Now the one who featured the controversial news would be the ABC News as they were the ones who investigated it. Now there are actually a lot of individuals who think that this is actually a government entity that monitors the companies for any scams. Now what many do not know is that this is not a government entity but a non profit organization that sells memberships.

The whole purpose of the website is very good however, the problem lies within the membership programs that they would be offering. Now the fishy part here is that the members who paid the organization would somehow get high grades. The ones who did not pay however, would get low or even mediocre grades from the website.

Now what would happen in this situation is that a certain business would be given a low grade by the Bureau. Now if the business owner would pay the Bureau a certain amount to become a member, then the organization will change the grade that it give. Now when this scandal was released, many people become more aware that this was a site that could not be trusted.

Now their credibility rating went even lower when it was exposed that they gave businesses that were considered scams really good ratings. Because of the number of complaints received from the authorities and readers alike, they had no choice but to shut down the branch that took part in that activity. Two years after the scandal, they finally shut down the branch that did the activity.

Now if one would monitor all of these events that had happened in 2010, one would really be skeptical about this organization. Even if they are still up and running today, much of their credibility hash been lost. Their excuse is that only one branch has been doing that and the other branches were not aware of the activities of that branch.
