Some Information On Different Types Of Vinyl Signs In Midland TX

By Toni Vang

No business can operate easily without proper signage. The signs are used to market the business or to give customers important information. Vinyl is a common choice for signage and lasts a long time. It has a professional, modern appearance. Unlike metal or wood, it does not corrode or deteriorate. However, there are different types of vinyl and using the right one is important in deciding how to make your business' vinyl signs in Midland TX.

Scientifically, vinyl is known as PVC. PVC is a common material in industrial and commercial settings, and it is used in the manufacture of a vast variety of products, such as piping or paint. Ordinary people in the street would probably just say it's plastic, and it's often white. In signage, it has two subtypes - coated and laminated.

One of the main issues in choosing which type of PVC to use is the environmental temperature of its intended application. At low temperatures, laminated PVC starts to become brittle. This threatens the stability of its moorings to walls or other structures and also makes it unreliable where it's under pressure, such as from pedestrians. If you are interested in using vinyl, you should first determine what temperature range it can tolerate. Incidentally, laminated PVC is also not suitable for hot air welding.

Laminated PVC can also not be used in hot air welding. It's of a lower quality, in fact, but without being substandard. Coated PVC is higher quality. The issue that arises is that laminated vinyl costs less, while at the same time it has lower specs. The central question is then as to what it is going to be used for and under what conditions, since in some cases it may not be an option at all.

Turning to coated PVC, it's more able to withstand lower temperature conditions and it is also more durable throughout its use. It is suitable for hot air welding. Where laminated PVC is more difficult to unwind from the roll that it is supplied on, because it is harder, coated PVC is relatively more soft and can be unwound more easily. The irony is that the latter is also more difficult to tear.

Another issue is the printing. Since the vinyl is going to be used for signage, people need to know how easy it is to print on. An elaborate printing design, which took a lot of time and work to develop or which is distinctive to the company's branding, might not be possible to print on the vinyl. Coated PVC is easier to print on.

The issue of price also arises in choosing the most suitable material for the signage. Coated PVC is more expensive but higher quality and lasts longer. The usual trade-off between lifespan and price then comes into play. But ultimately the customer should try to understand the specifications of each material, something which their supplier can advise them on, otherwise the material that they choose might not be ideal for the environment that they want to use it in.

One reason why some businesses might choose vinyl is that the signage can be made on a DIY basis. They should still, however, have the associated information about the material that they want to use. That is why they should get in touch with their vinyl supplier in Midland TX, and ask about what is available.
