The Importance Of Reducing Racism In Sports Media

By Tammie Caldwell

One of the evil things in this world that should be done away is racial prejudice. People already know at the bottom of their hearts that racial prejudice is unpleasant and that it does not contribute to people's growth. However, even when they know that, situations where people look down on others are still prevalent nowadays.

Especially in the world for athletes, you can see a lot of racial discrimination not only against the athletes but also against the fans. You can find different forms of discrimination in games for golf, ice hockey, soccer, basketball, football, and the likes. Racism in sports media is also evident, which makes it difficult to totally eliminate discrimination from this world.

As much as possible, people should make a move for reducing racial prejudice, if it is really impossible to eliminate it completely. Otherwise, one will suffer from consequences on that. There is surely nothing good that will come out of looking down on other people. Here are some reasons why you should reduce racial prejudice.

First of all, racial prejudice is the main factor that impedes or prevents the object of that racial prejudice from achieving his or her full potential as a human being. He or she will always feel like there is something lacking in him or her as a human being because of the derogatory words others voice out. That would be disheartening.

Racial discrimination is another contributing factor why people who fell prey to that would not be able to contribute to their society. Because they are not able to reach the level of confidence that will allow them to pull out their potential from their inner selves, they cannot make any contributions at all. That would surely affect the society badly.

When the victims are unable to give their contributions to the society, they are also affecting the ones who are subjecting them to that discrimination. After all, the discriminating party will not be able to benefit from the potential contributions victims could have given them. As a result of that, the community might greatly weaken as a whole.

Since not all people are built to tolerate painful words and situations for a long time, there is a high likelihood of retaliation. When the ill-will behind the discrimination against the victims become too much for the latter to burden, they will oftentimes prefer to retaliate. It would be bad if people took up violence against others.

A democratic country never promotes racial prejudices. In a democratic country, everyone is born equal. If there is racial discrimination in a democratic country, then that just means that they are promoting something that is completely different from the democratic ideals they should be adopting for the country.

Not all people might be convinced but racial prejudice is also illegal. There is no country that promotes racial prejudice, after all. In fact, since it is something derogatory and deteriorates the quality of the citizens, it has been banned. It would be good if this becomes totally eliminated since people will be comfortable with others better that way.
