Having The Right Key Connectors Goes Without Saying

By Leslie Ball

Since the introduction of fibre optic technology over the last few decades, many businesses have tried to outdo one another. It's an ongoing competition of who can create the cheapest, most efficient key connectors on the market. There has been over a 100 different kinds presented to the marketplace but only a few has been the front runners in popularity.

The newer fibre connector models are used to join optical fibres where a connection is required. The features of a good design is usually low cost, reliability, easily installed and easily used. They were previously produced in colour singlemode and multimode cable but they are available in more neutral clogs to make identification beater.

They use to be made colour coded but metallic models of yore, made it difficult. Colour tags were used instead to help identify them for single mode or multimode. Either a ceramic, metallic or plastic ferule to hold the fibre, is preferred.

The list of units that are the most popular are the SC, LC, ST and FC. They are all available in ceramic, metallic or plastic ferules and they all have pros and cons. The SC have good packing density and have a likable push and pull or snap in mechanism. The LC has replaced the SC in many ways because of its smaller size and plastic casing which make alignment easier.

Next is The LC that has a plastic casing which makes aligning less complicated and has a much smaller ferule than the SC. It is highly favoured for single mode as it carries out its job well. The FC is now outdated as it was too costly and has been replaced by the LC and SC. It was popular but the down side was that it was awkward to get in the opening.

Using these cables aren't just as simple as plugging and playing like same people think. For the most part it is true but this cabling and connector combination still needs some care and observance. There are some points to follow to make your signal stay uninterrupted such as to make sure that the units are plugged in securely and that the cables are loosely bundled up instead of too tightly, for better signal.

There are some tips and tricks to make these models work far more efficiently. It is recommended that they must be tested with a power meter to make sure enough light is being used through the cable run. Also each connector causes a small amount of signal loss so checking power levels on the cables is essential. The devices themselves have to be kept dust free to prevent it from interfering with the signal. They come with a dust cap just for this reason.

The connectors mentioned are only a few on the long list available, and there are some evry specialized custom types out there too. There are many different kinds of options and they can be purchased in different colours, styles and polishes. As long as you know which one is best suited to you, this will simplify connection and ensure you have a faultless experience connecting your devices.
