Choosing The Right Commercial Soft Serve Ice Cream Machine

By Mattie MacDonald

Restaurants and other dining establishments own ice cream machines for different reasons. For example being able to dispense it quickly rather than scooping can save time. This may sound silly but during a busy dinner rush every second counts! This is why when you are looking to buy a commercial soft serve ice cream machine you need to be sure you are getting something appropriate for your business.

The first thing to consider is what you are likely to use a machine for. If you do not need to serve it very often then it is best to use a low volume device. However if you are processing a lot then you will need one that can store a large amount and dispense a large amount in a short space of time.

For example if you are serving something alongside pie or dessert then you need a smaller unit. A tabletop or counter server is best as this will allow you to quickly put something on a plate. Some people may argue why you cannot simply use a scoop.

However if you need to serve up a lot to a lot of people a counter top device is not enough. You need a floor based unit as this will be able to store the amount you need in order to serve to a lot of people. This is especially important during the summer where you will need to get through a lot of ice cream!

Another consideration is how the ice cream is dispensed. A gravity based system is best if you want something that is low maintenance because it is relatively easy to clean and there is not much overspill. However the downside of this is that it is not as fast as a mechanised pump system.

A mechanised pump system can produce a lot more ice creams in a shorter space of time. However because they are harder to clean and maintain you need to be confident in being able to operate it. Therefore this is probably the best option when you have a lot of customers and you need to serve them fast and ideally if you have someone on hand to help with the maintenance so that you can avoid the machine not working during busy periods as much as possible.

There is also the issue of whether you want additional flavours or not. If you want to keep it simple or you are serving ice cream with a dessert then a single flavour is best. However if you serve ice creams and this is your speciality then additional flavours and swirling them together can often be a good marketing tool.

In short there are a number of options available. It is important to do your research and consider the most appropriate make and model that is right for you. Use your regular search engine to find out more and get feedback from customers who have bought machines in the past. With the right approach you will find the ideal machinery to suit the needs of your business.
