How To Select Concealed Carry Wear

By Jayne Rutledge

Whether your keep your Glock in your pocket or your Sig by your side, you want your weapon to be comfortable and readily accessible. The last thing you need in a tense situation is to have your holster chafe or to have problems winkling it out when seated. Today's concealed carry wear makes it easy to remain fashionable while packing heat, whatever the weather or whatever situation you are in.

When you're under cover, it's hard to look like a kindergarten teacher with an unsightly and telltale bulge at your waist or on your backside. Men have the option of carrying their CW in their shirt or trousers, while women have the added advantage of being able to use a gun purse, body wrap, thigh holster or attached to the bra between the two cups in the center (this arrangement allows easy access when wearing a shirt, sweater or blouse.

If your current holster is uncomfortable, if it is difficult to get to your weapon when sitting down, if you need a holster that can accommodate different sized handguns, then perhaps a holster T-shirt is right for you. These are exactly what they sound like, T-shirts with the holster built right in. Surprisingly tough for those intense situations, these garments are very popular among users.

There are a number of advantages to wearing a CCW T-shirt. For one, they are the way to go in the summertime when you area wearing shorts. You can wear a breezy button-type shirt over your 100 percent cotton holster shirt. The weapon is easy to remove. Some holster shirts have added straps or velcro attachments, but think twice about whether you want to make a velcro noise when you are reaching for your weapon. This can kill the element of surprise. On the other hand, it may confuse the other guy, so that's not an altogether bad thing.

In the old days, under cover cops had to wear bulky winter clothing when they wanted to avoid detection of their sidearm. Today, there are a wide variety of purpose-built options. Pants, for instance, are specially constructed to allow the user to carry their weapon inside the waistband. There are pouches for storing magazines and special belt loop designs to accommodate pancake or belt slide holsters.

Carpenter's jeans may be adapted for CCW. There are all many of pockets for your hand cuffs, flashlights, weapon, magazines, etc. Again, you want to look for a belt loop separation that accommodates all types of holsters.

For women, carrying a gun purse eliminates those pesky fashion issues but can be a bitch if your purse gets stolen. There are, however, plenty of holsters and body wraps available to use instead.

When you are shopping for concealed carry wear, the one of the key features is comfort, especially if you wear your holster for long periods of time. Accessibility is also very important; in some cases, even more important than comfort. Take your weapon with you for trying things on, but remember to have it in safety mode, i. E, unloaded, especially in the store dressing room.
