Sizzle.
Can you hear it? I'm about to tell you what's cooking.
If you asked 100 people on the street what their main goal in life was, they would probably give you some sort of answer relating to the concept of happiness.
Of course happiness is a fantastic thing, but really how do you manage to get it? How do you go about living your life in a way that guarantees your happiness?
Not many people really know. A lot of people have come up with systems and books on the subject, but when it really comes down to it everyones experience is completely different. All we know is that like any other emotion in the book, when it's there it's there.
We don't try to do anything with it or try to be more cheerful, we just are that way. But oh when we are angry, suffering, or in a hard part of our life, we try to do all kinds of things to get ourselves out of it. We try to kick the feeling, manipulate it, and exit out of it as quickly as we can.
Ignoring what's really going on in your life is a very dangerous and destructive way of living. When you ignore what's actually going on you create a ladder that is missing rungs. When life gets really difficult and starts kicking your butt, the rungs you hoped you could step down on are not there and you end up falling hard.
When you fall off a ladder, you land really hard.
Splat.
So what can you do to avoid this?
Court a little bit of chaos and some madness in your life. Start diving into the parts of your soul that might not be the easiest places to go. You know, that place called the past, especially the times that hold negative memories. The trick is to get your hand close enough to the frying pan to feel the heat and not burn yourself. You should also keep yourself from staying so far away that you cannot feel the heat at all. If you can find this middle ground in the darkness, staying near to the negative feelings without being consumed by them, you will find out some pretty interesting things about yourself.
If you do this, you will heal yourself.
Chaos and a little craziness...those are good things. You want that energy flowing through you, and if you can harness it and create art with it, whatever that art may be, the possibilities are endless.
It's not only the light that can create amazing things. You can create incredible art through the darkness as well. But you have to be willing to go there first. You have to be willing to enter into the places of your heart that scare you and challenge you in the toughest of ways. There are brilliant things that can be created from that place.
I would venture to say it's possible.
Maybe we should not be searching for happiness. Maybe we should be seeking to dive inside ourselves as much as possible and come to places of understanding and compassion. When we are open to all things then anything can happen.
Give it a shot. It could change everything.
