When we finally start to believe in ourselves, what we are capable of, and who we are as people down to our core we develop this iron belief that allows us to stay true in a sea of criticism.
It's only when a person begins to build themselves upon the compliments of others or suffers because of their criticisms that things begin to get really shaky. When this starts to happen, the character of the individual is in question because they are trying to appease others instead of truly being themselves.
To thrive in this world, you have to have thick skin.
For no real reason at all the wolves will come out after you and attempt to tear you and your reputation to shreds. Similarly, the people around you may compliment you with hollow praise and attempt to bring your ego up. If we fall into allowing both these tactics to define us, we can quickly end up in a world of hurt.
So what's the solution?
Trust. Deep trust. We must trust in ourselves and who we are.
Believing in yourself is one of the hardest things to do in this world. There are so many things and people telling us to be someone else that it becomes really hard to listen to that inner voice telling us where to go and what to do. But if you can believe in yourself, you begin heading down a path that can change your entire life. You will be faced with large temptations, but with some iron will and belief you can blast straight through them.
Change for yourself. Change because you want to. Change because it's something that really matters to you and deeply resonates with your purpose in life. If you aren't where you want to be right now then decide to take a leap into the world of personal growth, but never forget to do it for yourself.
Then, when you get to the end of the line, you'll always be able to claim that you kept true to yourself no matter what. To me, that sounds like a pretty happy life.
So start believing in yourself. You never know what you are capable of until you really go for it.
